In my opinion, the most overlooked necessity in a game of billiards is the table lighting. Think about this for a moment: How much fun would playing a game of pool be if you had to constantly ask people to "Get Out Of Your Light" before each and every shot? Not much fun.
That is why a billiards light is a must have for each and every pool table owner. That is the only position a lamp can be placed, in order to eliminate shadows. Imagine this shot, the cue ball at one end of the table, and your target ball on the other. That's a lot of green. Now imagine having to aim through a casted shadow on the table. Sure it can be done, but that is not how the game is meant to be played.

Now we know that we need to purchase a billiard light. With so many options and styles, how do we decide which is best for us? Well, durability is the most important factor that there is. Of course, this is just my opinion but think about this. I know it's a clique, but true as they come. You get what you pay for. What is the point of saving a couple hundred dollars, if you end up replacing the product in a matter of years? I would much prefer spending a little bit more, in order to secure a higher quality product.
Now, just about every product out on the market has a cheaper option. The same goes for pool table lights. When comparing these products, the difference lies in the shade of the lamp. With many different types of material, comes many different price ranges. The most common billiard light that I happen to notice in businesses is built from a wood frame accompanied by either a plastic or glass shade. Another option is an all glass pool table light. These are usually marked at a higher price.
Another is the "WOW" factor. To me, billiards is a game that allows the player to express their personality. Tables, cues and balls all have a numerous amount of different designs. So obviously the pool table light carries a different array of designs as well. Once again this is only my opinion, but I believe that the stained glass pool table lights are the most beautiful design out on the market. The colors of the glass have such a powerful attraction to the eye that it tends to leave most people in awe. Most pool table owners that I have had the pleasure of speaking with really take pride in their presentation of their billiards equipment. That is why I consider the "WOW" factor to be an important part of the decision process.
So there you have it, my quick summary of what to look for when buying a new pool table light. Remember, when people leave your game room, the pool table light is one of the more distinct items that you can display. I love to have the people talking about how impressed that they are with my billiards set-up!!! How important is that to you???
